November 6, 1:00 - 1:30 p.m. ET ADA Live Radio: Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities, A Global Perspective

ADA Live! (WADA) is a free monthly show broadcast nationally on the Internet hosted by the Southeast ADA Center.

From the Southeast ADA Center: Luis Gallegos, J.D., the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations in New York, will discuss a global perspective on disability human rights. Peter Blanck, Ph.D., J.D.,University Professor & Chairman of the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University, will interview Ambassador Gallegos about disability human rights as reflected in the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (“CRPD”) and the Convention’s Conference of States Parties (“COSP”) to the CRPD.

November 7, 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. ET Free Webinar: Leased Facilities

This is a free webinar offered through a collaboration of the U.S. Access Board, the Great Lakes ADA Center, and the ADA National Network.

From the Great Lakes ADA Center: Federal agencies and the US Postal Service (USPS) must ensure that facilities they lease are accessible as required by the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA). Standards issued under the ABA, which apply to facilities funded by the federal government or USPS, provide minimum requirements for facilities or buildings newly leased by federal agencies or the USPS. These provisions address accessible routes, parking, toilet and bathing facilities, sales and service counters, joint use areas, fire alarms, and other elements and spaces. Presenters will review these requirements and explain how they apply to leased facilities. A representative from the General Services Administration, which leases facilities on behalf of many federal agencies, will join the Access Board in conducting this session.

November 12, 2nd Annual Indiana Building Academy at Purdue University, West Lafayette 

Long-time ADA-Indiana member, Ric Edwards, will be a presenter at the second annual 2019 Indiana Building Academy on November 12. The event is being hosted at Purdue University, West Lafayette. The building academy is a collaboration of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and Purdue University's School of Construction Management. Mr. Edward's session will cover the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to building projects. Mr. Edwards works as the Safety & ADA Coordinator for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The Indiana Building Academy is an all-day event focusing on the built environment and the regulations that cover the construction and renovation of buildings and facilities. The academy seeks to attract local and state government officials, code professionals, builders and construction companies, and other design professionals.

The ADA Audio Conference is coordinated by the Great Lakes ADA Center on behalf of the ADA National Network.

From the Great Lakes ADA Center: Employee leave under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) continues to be confusing for both employees and employers. Join us for this session as our speaker explains the ADA requirements when it comes to leave, both as an employee benefit and as a reasonable accommodation, and how these requirements fit with the requirement to grant medical leave to employees under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Following the presentation participants will have an opportunity to ask questions of the speaker.

This is a free webinar offered through the Emergency Management and Preparedness - Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities Webinar Series, hosted by the Pacific ADA Center.

Excerpt from the Pacific ADA Center: Everyone, everywhere should know how to protect themselves before, during, and after earthquakes. People with Access and Functional Needs (AFN) or disabilities need to be aware of what steps to take for earthquake preparedness and emergency managers need to be deliberate in including people with disabilities in their advising, education and outreach efforts. In this webinar participants will get an overview of new resources and materials developed by people with disabilities for people with disabilities. Emergency Managers will learn steps to take to include people with disabilities in preparedness education and drills. This presentation will also highlight a best practice model for providing earthquake preparedness training for and with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Earthquake Preparedness is for everyone with everyone!
