This is a glossary of common terms found throughout the site.

Auxiliary Aids and Services -  "The ADA uses the term “auxiliary aids and services” (“aids and services”) to refer to the ways to communicate with people who have communication disabilities." excerpt from DOJ's publication, ADA Requirements: Effective Communication

ADAAA -  Acronym for the "Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act" of 2008 (see EEOC's overview of ADAAA.

Built Environment - The term "Built Environment" generally refers to structures, buildings, etc. that are constructed (versus naturally occuring)

Complete Streets - This a term used to describe an approach to planning and implementation that includes all modes of transportation, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motor vehicles, public transit, and more. Visit the National Complete Streets Coalition for more information.

DBTAC - The acronym "DBTAC" stood for "Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center." It was a term used to refer to the Regional ADA Center, like our Great Lakes ADA Center. The DBTAC term is no longer used as the "Centers" refer to themselves as "Regional ADA Centers" now.

DOJ - The acronym "DOJ" refers to the U.S. Department of Justice, the enforcement entity for Title II and III of the ADA.  Visit their  ADA.gov website.

EEOC - The acronym "EEOC" refers to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the enforcement entity for Title I of the ADA.

Effective Communication -   The term "effective communication" and the "rules" are described in the overview section of the DOJ's publication, ADA Requirements: Effective Communication.
